Resort has a new partner
Northland Properties Group, a Vancouver-based company owned by the Bob Gaglardi family, has acquired an equity interest in Revelstoke Mountain Resort (RMR).
A statement from RMR said Northland, which was founded in 1963, owns the Sandman Hotel chain, and Denny’s and Moxie’s restaurants across Canada. Northland is also leading the development of the proposed Garibaldi all seasons-resort, near Squamish.
“The Gaglardis are a well-respected B.C. family with many years of experience in the development and hospitality industries,” Don Simpson, co-developer of Revelstoke Mountain Resort, said in the statement.
“They’ll add a lot of strength to our partnership as we grow Revelstoke into a billion-dollar, four-season resort.”
Tom Gaglardi, president of the Northland Group, was pleased with their investment: “We are thrilled to be involved in a world-class resort development like this. Revelstoke Mountain Resort is an amazing property and is an exciting extension for us in the hospitality industry in Canada.”
On Saturday, Dec. 22, Revelstoke Mountain Resort opens its first season with more than 4,700 feet of vertical lift serviced terrain and 1,500 ski acres of skiing. Revelstoke will ultimately offer North America’s longest lift serviced vertical at nearly 6,000 feet.
The $1-billion Revelstoke Mountain Resort is expected to be completed over 15 years and include over 5,000 new housing units, as well as more than 500,000 square feet of commercial and retail space, and a signature golf course.
Revelstoke Mountain Resort’s principals include Don Simpson, chairman-emeritus of Denver-based Simpson Housing, one of the largest multi-family developers in the U.S., Toronto-based developers Hunter Milborne and Robert Powadiuk and now, the Gaglardi family.
