City wants to cut community centre spruces
Revelstoke city council is scheduled to take on many new and some returning issues at their Feb. 12 meeting. Here’s a preview of some of the issues, as well as other municipal business on the spring schedule.
It’s an eco-dilemma. City hall wants to chop down the two big spruce trees next to the Seniors’ Centre at the Revelstoke Community Centre. Why? So they can put in a bus stop to make public transit more accessible for seniors, who’ve requested a stop closer to the centre. The city plans to add some bushes and trees around the new stop.
However, the city’s environmental advisory committee and the North Columbia Environmental Society oppose the plan, calling it a loss of yet more trees in Revelstoke’s urban forest. They want an alternate location for the bus stop that doesn’t require cutting the trees.
