A structure fire in Coldstream on Monday, April 15 needed two dozen firefighters to contain it.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. Coldstream and Lavington fire crews responded to reports of a blaze at a property on Matner Lane.
“Upon arrival, we encountered a large, fully engulfed out building that was used as a storage site for various things, from propane tanks to an old vehicle,” said Fiona Morgenthaler-Code, Coldstream fire chief. “Safety concerns were paramount due to the volatile contents and overhead power lines nearby a storage fuel tank.”
Another concern was the close proximity of a home. However, crews were able to stop the blaze from reaching the home.
“With the assistance of 24 firefighters on the scene, the fire was extinguished and overhaul was performed to assure of no hot spots.”
Hydro, Fortis B.C., RCMP and the staff of Coldstream were lauded by Morgenthaler-Code for their assistance during the blaze.
She added that at the time the fire “does not appear suspicious, but there is no cause until the fire investigator completes his investigation.”

The workshop will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Coldstream Community Hall, 9909 Kalamalka Rd.
