Less than two months after getting council’s stamp of approval, Penticton’s largest housing plan now has a first phase to look forward to.
Marketed as “The Innovation District,” the plan includes 11 buildings ranging in height from six to 12 storeys at 1704 Government Street. It will be built in seven phases over the next several years.
According to the development’s website, the district’s first phase will include a six-storey, 127-home building that features studio to three-bedroom units. Prices are starting at $299,900.
“Located creekside, the architectural vision echos Scandinavian design, bringing a new level of excellence to Pentiction,” the website reads.
Registration opened this week for the first phase.
Along with having a new name, the district is also being branded as an “entertainment hub,” as well as a “business and commercial centre.”
The development would be 10 acres in size and located across the street from the Penticton Regional Hospital.
“The Innovation District will deliver much-needed housing, office, commercial spaces and other services across from Penticton Regional Hospital - creating a dynamic new urban lifestyle and business hub, in the heart of the city,” the website reads.
Between 1,200 and 1,500 residential units are included in the development, which is expected to also feature restaurants, cafes, medical clinics, and offices.
The construction of hotels on the site was also mentioned when the development came before city council in March.
