A Revelstoke man is facing numerous charges after RCMP received reports of stolen vehicles, vehicle arson, theft and dangerous driving earlier this week.

Police were first notified of an incident on Sunday, May 21, at 9 a.m. when a person called to say he stopped to help the driver of an Ford F150 who appeared to be stuck in a sandy area, but instead was confronted by the driver, who claimed to be armed with a gun.

Police located the driver, but on two occasions they say he refused to stop.

Later, police received reports of two stolen vehicles, including a Ford F250 and a Ford F350. They also received reports of two vehicle fires. Upon investigation, police determined the vehicles were stolen that morning.

The incident became more serious when it was discovered the man’s description matched that of someone who allegedly stole ammunition from a local hunting store.

RCMP located the suspect on a service road 15 kilometres west of Revelstoke. They set up a road block to stop him from fleeing, but the man sped through the road block. He was tracked by an RCMP helicopter and was spotted fleeing on foot along the Trans-Canada Highway.

The man was arrested shortly thereafter.

Kelly Andrew Maclean, 31, is charged with 14 offences, including three counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, two counts of arson, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, theft over $5,000, theft under $5,000, dangerous driving, flight from police and driving while disqualified.

He remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on June 6.

The RCMP thanked everyone that assisted in the investigation and ask anyone with information to call them at 250-837-5255.
