Mr. Dennis Helyer passed away at the Shuswap Lake General Hospital in Salmon Arm, B.C. on Thursday, May 21st, 2009 at the age of 80 years. A Celebration of Life Service was held at St. Francis Church Hall on Saturday afternoon, May 30th with family and friends presiding.

Cremation with interment of Dennis’ cremated remains beside his beloved wife Joan in Mt. View Cemetery, Revelstoke.


Dennis was born in Trenton, Ontario on June 6, 1928 and was a resident of Revelstoke from 1970 to 1999. He worked for CP Rail for 41 years, retiring as an engineer in 1992. Dennis spent his life raising his family with his wife, Joan. They were well-known for their beautiful flower gardens around their home in Revelstoke. After Joan died, Dennis travelled across the country, spending time with various members of his family.


Dennis was predeceased by his daughter Therese in 1989 and his wife Joan in 1997. He is survived by five sons: Gary of Revelstoke, Michael (Ana Maria) of Toronto, John of Salmon Arm, James of Morris, Manitoba and Len (Tracey) of Calgary; two daughters: Joan (Bob) Eley of Revelstoke and Betty (Will) Stokman of Revelstoke; 11 grandchildren: Lisa, Christie, Therese (Chris Wilson), Ali (Matt Thomas), Mandy (Rob McQuarrie), Nick (Jenny), Tasha (Shawn Stockman), Adrian, Patrick, Alex and Ashley; 5 great grandchildren; siblings: Eric Helyer of Cobourg, Ontario, Phil (Diane) Helyer of Trenton, Ontario and Lorraine (Paul) LeBlanc of Brighton, Ontario; in-laws: Jack (Anne) McCauley of Trenton, Ontario, Jim (Janice) McCauley of Ottawa, Margaret (Colin) Tranmer of Abbotsford, Roseanne (Arvin) Kyer of Barrie, Ontario, Theresa Lynette of Barrie, Ontario and Sally (Gerry) Dagenais of Toronto, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.


Arrangements were in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke.
