Hendrik (Henk) van Goor

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving husband, Dad, Opa and Great-Opa Henk van Goor. He lost his short battle with cancer on Saturday, March 7th, 2009 at Queen Victoria Hospital in Revelstoke, in the arms of his loving wife of 56 years, Hennie.

A Funeral Service was held at St. Francis Church on Friday afternoon, March 13th with Pastor Robert Clifford officiating. Pallbearers were: Tyler van Goor, Travis van Goor, Matthew van Goor, Andrew Kozek, Justin Fleming, Giles Andrews, Steven Levesque and Jesse Hedley. Cremation followed the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Revelstoke Hospice Society, Box 3133, Revelstoke, B.C. V0E 2S0 or to the Revelstoke Humane Society, Box 340, Revelstoke, B.C. V0E 2S0, in memory of Henk.

Henk will be remembered for his unconditional love for his family. Family gatherings were his most favourite time, to be with his loved ones in a room full of laughter and smiles.

Henk was born in Wilderfank, Holland on June 10th, 1926 and started his trade as a brick mason in the war years, at the age of 14. He was briefly captured by the Germans, but escaped and remained in hiding until the end of the war. Following the war Henk spent over three years with the Dutch military, in the former Dutch colony of Indonesia. Returning safely to Holland, Henk married his future wife Hennie on April 11, 1953.

Henk and his family immigrated to Revelstoke, Canada in 1974, where Henk continued his career as a brick mason until retiring at the age of 68. Much of his work can still be seen around Revelstoke.

Henk was predeceased by his parents Albert and Akke, infant son Franz Roman, infant daughter Hinke and great granddaughter Kora. Henk will be sorely missed by his loving wife Hennie; four children: Ankie (Uwe), Roman (Cathy), Bert (Sheilah) and Linda (Joe). Henk will be especially missed by his grandchildren: Kristie (Justin), Melissa (Giles), Tyler (Shannon), Travis,

Jennifer (Jesse), Lindsey (Steven), Matthew and Andrew (Lindsay). Great-Opa will also be missed by his two great granddaughters Jette and Gracie. Also left to mourn are his brothers Jack (Mary) van Goor, Albert (Cathy) van Goor and his sister Tina (Oeds) deJager, as well as many nephews and nieces.

Arrangements were in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke.
