John Grant “Skinner” Wilson

August 19, 1949 – March 3, 2011

It is with great sadness and regret that we announce the sudden passing of John Grant “Skinner” Wilson. Grant passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and close friends on March 3, 2011, in the ICU at the Rockyview General Hospital.

Grant was born in Sioux Lookout, ON and grew up in Winnipeg, MB before heading west to further his career with the C.P.R, where he retired at the age of 50. Grant volunteered for years with Alberta Alpine, and could almost always be seen at any race sitting on his fold out stool. Grant had a great love for the outdoors and looked forward to every October where he went on the Alpine Alsip Memorial Hunt with his son Garrett and good friends he has had since childhood.

Grant is survived by his children, Cassidy and Garrett Wilson, and his brother Terry Wilson. He is also survived by his Aunt Joan Williams and her children Jim, Patrick (Donna), Shane (Sue), and Michelle (Nicholas) along with many close friends. He was pre deceased, by his parents Donna and Bert Wilson, and long time friend, Bill Bradley.

The family would like to thank the West Jet crew aboard flight 2311, the Staff at the Calgary Airport, the EMS team who responded and the ICU medical team at the Rockyview General Hospital for their compassion, dedication and support.

A celebration of Grant’s life will be held on March 17, 2011 at 1:00pm at the McInnis and Holloway Funeral Homes, Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, Alberta. Ph. 403-243-8200.
