Marian Sarah Granstrom passed away in Queen Victoria Hospital, Revelstoke on Monday, January 23, 2017 at the age of 89 years. A Memorial Service will be held at the Revelstoke United Church at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon, January 31st with Reverend David Cooke officiating. Interment followed in the family plot of Mountain View Cemetery, Revelstoke. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Revelstoke Community Foundation, Box 2398, Revelstoke, B.C. V0E 2S0, in memory of Marian.


Marian was born in Benito, Manitoba on July 10, 1927 into a family of wheat farmers from the Swan River Valley. At the age of seven she moved with her family to Dauphin, Manitoba. Marian graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital Class of ’49 as a Registered Nurse. She moved to Burnaby to join her family and worked as Head Nurse of Men’s Surgical Ward at Royal Columbian Hospital for five years. Marian arrived in Revelstoke in September 1954 driving a pink Vauxhall and had her first date with Ken on New Year’s Eve 1954. They were married in September 1957. She nursed in Revelstoke from 1954 to 1958, taking a break to raise their three children, and then returning to nursing in 1974 until retiring in 1991.


Marian was a founding member of the Revelstoke Hospice Society. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, knitting, sewing, cross country skiing, outdoor adventures, and her friends. Marian was a strong woman who overcame and dealt with serious side effects of diabetes. She was a strong woman, proud to be a nurse and especially proud of her family.


Marian was predeceased by her son Robert in 1980 and her beloved husband Ken in 2015. She is survived by her daughter Cathy of Revelstoke; son Bruce and wife Rosemary of Revelstoke and her adored granddaughters Kate and Beth.


Marian spent the last four years of her life at Mount Cartier Court. She enjoyed visits from family and friends, meals with her family and time spent outside. A special thank you to all the staff at the cottages for their wonderful care and dedication to Marian.
