Mona Chornobey

Marie Mona Anita Trembley Chornobey

Mona was born on August 26th, 1959 in Timmins Ontario. She relocated to Revelstoke in the early 1980’s. She passed away at Mt Cartier Court on Friday, October 7th, 2016 at 57 years old.

Mona settled into family life for a few years until the disease of alcoholism afflicted her. She chose to live a transient lifestyle for many years. The highlight of these years was meeting people on the street and sharing a smile and a one liner with them.

In 2013, after a medical emergency, a team of family, friends and community professionals wrapped Mona with support to get her housing and settle into a stable routine that met her needs. For these last 3 years Mona loved having a warm, comfortable apartment, flannelette pajamas, cable TV and enough money each and every day to keep food in her cupboards and supply her with the beer and smokes that she enjoyed. Mona was truly content!

The community of Revelstoke is a kind and caring community. Revelstokians have been compassionate to Mona over the years. Mona enjoyed her routines of walking around town and talking with people, joking and kibitzing that brought smiles to the people she spoke with. Mona’s first language was French and she loved conversing with people in French.

A special mention to the staff of: the Toronto Dominion Bank; Conversations Coffee House; the RCMP; the Gateway Inn; Tammie at Selkirk Graphics; Cathy, Patti and Melissa J of Community Connections; Doug Hulley and Gill Maclaughlan at Monashee Court; Laura at 1st Impressions; Mona’s close friends including Julie V, Alice, Cori, Peggy, Chris and many more friends who know how special they were to Mona (sorry we couldn’t list all of you); the residents of Monashee Court who welcomed Mona; and Mona’s “Bon Ami”, Mylene.

A thank you and acknowledgement of exceptional care to: Dr Sarah Brown; Lorrie Rogers; Tuulikki Tennant, Audrey, Chelsea, Siobhan and all of the Homecare team; the caring staff at Mt. Cartier Court; the dedicated Hospice Society volunteers Vivian, Joanne, Jane, Jill and Krista; Mona’s family and extended family and all who visited her at Mt. Cartier Court. These caring people showed Mona respect and treated her with dignity.

Mona is predeceased by her parents, Lucille and Laurent Trembley and her brother Mark Trembley and her close friend Julie Aho. She is survived by her two children, their father and his family and two beautiful grandchildren; her sister Claire, brother Dennis, sister in law Marsha and nieces and nephews; and her step siblings Michael, Candy, Cindy, Derek & Blake.

By request of Mona and her family, a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mona’s favourite song was “Years From Now” by Dr Hook. To remember Mona, she asked that you please play her favourite song and raise your glass in her memory.
