Province needs to build an ambulance station
The following is an open letter to provincial Health Minister George Abbott.
Dear Minister Abbott:
I am sure you realize that the Revelstoke ambulance service has had trouble finding suitable accommodation in recent years.
With the growth in population due to development, the high rate of highway accidents along our route, and the down grading of our hospital to little more than a clinic it is absolutely necessary that we maintain the two ambulances we have and that they have appropriate office space and parking so the vandalism they have experienced in the past does not repeat.
If I am not mistaken, the province is responsible for funding this service which I am sure all Revelstokians view as a right and will expect when they dial 911.
I have a particular interest in this service since it saved my life this year when I suffered a ruptured appendix (Salmon Arm being the closest place for treatment).
I would hope that the province would purchase a piece of land and build a station for us before the current lease for our ambulances runs out next year. Land here is becoming more and more expensive with the speculation going on so I would hope the province views this purchase as a priority.
Waiting to hear from you on this topic,
