Letter: Time to take a hard look at development

Allen McInnes says its time to look at the impacts of all the development happening around Revelstoke.

Editor,

It seems to me that some people cannot wait to get all our agricultural reserve land and wildlife areas either under buildings or under pavement.

All the agricultural land we had years ago is under water part of the year because of the Keenleyside Dam.

Future generations may quite possibly need the land for food production. Because of climate change, we cannot depend on California or other foreign countries for our food.

Besides, all that shipping produces a lot of greenhouse gases.

Most people love to see wildlife. that means we have a good ecosystem. Wildlife areas around Revelstoke are being depleted at an alarming rate. Many animals need low elevation lands for wintering.

I think we need to take a hard look at where we are going. Future generations depend on what we do today.

Allan McInnes,
