26th annual Big Bear tournament kicks off this weekend

Revelstoke’s Big Bear soccer tournament takes place this weekend.

The 26th annual Big Bear soccer tournament kicks off Saturday morning with Banff taking on Nelson’s Laski United in Queen Elizabeth Park at 10 a.m.

Twelve men’s teams and five women’s teams are registered for the tournament this year.

Games will take place all day Saturday and Sunday in Queen Elizabeth Park and the fields behind Revelstoke Secondary School and Begbie View Elementary.

Revelstoke’s men’s team is in action against Nelson at 2:30 p.m. and against Banff at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Revelstoke’s women’s team plays their first game on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. when they take on PSG from Kelowna. At 7 p.m., they face Invermere and on Sunday they play Laski from Nelson at noon and Houle from Kamloops at 3 p.m.

All Revelstoke games will be played in front of the beer gardens in Queen Elizabeth Park.

William’s Lake goes in to the men’s tournament as the six-time defending champion and is the team to beat.

The men’s playoffs take place on Sunday while the women’s tournament is a round-robin format.
