A beautiful sunny day in Rogers Pass welcomed more than 1,000 visitors to the Rogers Pass Discovery Centre to celebrate Canada’s Parks Day. Entry to Glacier National Park, and all National Parks across the country, was free for the day.

Visitors enjoyed a BBQ hosted by the Friends of Mount Revelstoke and Glacier and fun family activities throughout the day. Kids were especially thrilled to see the giant inflatable beaver and take place in the launch of a new kid’s activity booklet. Hundreds took on the challenge, testing their knowledge of the natural and cultural history of Glacier National Park to become official Parks Canada Xplorers.

Glacier National Park’s newest exhibit, “Breeches of Miss Conduct”, was on display in its permanent location on the lawn of the Rogers Pass Discovery Centre. Mountain World Heritage Interpretive Theatre presented a new song written especially for the exhibit about women mountaineers who “wear the pants”. They also entertained the crowd with other fun songs and skits, including a performance of “The Park Song”, a new campfire song written for Parks Canada by Sarah Harmer.

Below are some pictures from Vancouver’s Stanley Park, where Parks staff was also on hand.
