Operation Duck Drop in Penticton has been deemed a success.
Thousands of purchased rubber ducks were dropped into the Channel at 9 a.m. Saturday morning, May 27, to kick off the charitable event’s return to the community.
Event organizers say around 2,000 ducks were purchased ahead of the drop, with proceeds set to go to the Penticton Indian Band and South Okanagan Similkameen Brain Injury Society.
One rubber duck carried a price tag of $2 and those who purchased the three fastest ducks will each win $500.
The coordinated drop took place on Green Mountain Road, following the five-second countdown from event organizers and the dozens of people in attendance.
Rubber ducks appeared to be moving fast down the Penticton Channel, organizers said in the aftermath of the drop. They anticipated the purchased ducks to arrive at their destination at the Coyote Cruises parking lot no later than 10:20 a.m.
People can be seen floating down the Channel following the drop, with the task of collecting the rubber ducks when they arrive by the parking lot.
Operation Duck Drop continues at 2 p.m. on Saturday, in the parking lot at the end of the river channel for a BBQ by donation.
The party is scheduled to end at 4 p.m.
