The Penticton Seniors’ Drop-In Centre’s largest fundraiser for the year has ended with more than $12,000 collected and one lucky donor walking away with a brand-new e-bike.

Out of the nearly 4,500 raffle tickets that were sold in support of the facility, the name of Allan Slade was selected during a draw on Tuesday, June 20.

Slade — who is now the new owner of an e-bike from local store Pedego — was one of the thousands who purchased a ticket at Canadian Tire or the Penticton Farmers’ Market over the last three months, to help the centre pay for facility upgrades.

“We’re absolutely elated with how well everything turned out and that we achieved our fundraising goal,” said Martina Begg, president of the seniors’ drop-in centre.

Begg, along with director Mignonne Wood, said they hope more than $12,000 will go toward modernizing certain areas of the facility.

The Penticton Seniors’ Drop-In Centre is located at 2965 South Main Street.

Begg and Wood also acknowledged the volunteers who spent all spring selling tickets in support of the cause. In particular, they say Carol Bieganski was a dedicated member of the team who ensured the centre reached its $12,000 fundraising goal.
