Revelstoke will be coming out to celebrate long-time primary care paramedic, Kellie Christy on Thursday, June 27.
After nearly 34 years serving Revelstoke in various capacities in the healthcare field, Christy has decided that it's time to spend more time with her grandchildren. The celebration will include a final sign-off. Christy's service was also previously recognized last month when she was presented with an Emergency Medical Services Exemplary Service Medal. This award is given to professionals with more than 20 years of exemplary service in pre-hospital emergency care.
During her final shift and sign-off, a message of thanks commending Christy for her service will be read aloud by the dispatch staff.
Christy said that one of her favourite aspects of her career has been being a part of the community, and watching patients and co-workers grow up over the span of her career.
"I've known my crew partner since she was born," said Christy.
Working in a small community like Revelstoke has had its pros and cons for Christy, but overall she has been grateful that she has been able to give back to the mountain town by providing care. For Christy, this is highlighted by the satisfaction of "having an occupation that allows you to be welcomed into the home."
After retiring, Christy is looking forward to travelling, spending more time with her grandchildren, and after some rest, will look into volunteering opportunities.
