Classic car enthusiasts recently gathered to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Vintage Car Club of Canada’s Shuswap Chapter.
This congregation of collectible car collectors took place at Elks Hall in Salmon Arm on Sunday, Sept. 24. Current and former members were in attendance, including original members Jerry and Elaine Foskett. The Fosketts were presented a plaque and 40-year pins for having consistently belonged to the local club throughout its 40 years.
The Shuswap Vintage Car Club member Ken Smith said club members keep active in the region by visiting senior care homes and supporting local causes. He said the club was also instrumental in helping get the historical transportation section at R.J. Haney Heritage Village and Museum off of the ground.
“The club in its inaugural years purchased the old Thompson garage on the north shore, dismantled the same and floated the logs across the lake, then reassembled the historical garage at the current Haney village site,” said Smith, adding the club also restored a tall gas pump and purchased a restored Model T Ford, which they donated to Haney for their transportation archives.
Under the presidency of Doug Abbott, the Shuswap Vintage Car Club meets on the third Saturday of every month, at 10 a.m. in the Salmon Arm Legion.
“Anyone with a love of the automobile, is welcome to attend,” said Smith.
