Jennifer Olsen has delighted students and parents alike teaching at a preschool in Vernon for more than 30 years.
Now, as Olsen prepares to retire, the board of All Saints Nursery School is looking to celebrate her special career.
The board is inviting all previous and current students and families to come down to their old nursery school, take a walk down memory lane and help celebrate the longtime preschool teacher. Olsen’s retirement open house will take place Saturday, June 17, from 2 to 4 p.m., at the school, 3205 27th St., with a cake and presentation at 3 p.m.
Danielle Zierler, a board member at the non-profit preschool, says Olsen is a beloved member of the community who taught her oldest child 10 years ago. She says kids who were taught by Olsen 20 years ago have now grown up and enrolled their own kids in the school, just to have their favourite teacher educate their youngsters.
“She’s very devoted, she’s very kind, she’s very patient, (and) she’s so good with the little ones. Not everybody has the patience for their little antics, but she’s just very loving,” Zierler said.
“Everybody knows her, everybody loves her, she recognizes so many kids. Everybody remembers her. She’s just the sweetest.”
Zierler and the rest of the board hope to encourage as many current and former students to come out to the event to honour a pillar of early education in the community.
