Schedule events for Railway Days, August 11-14

Be sure to include Revelstoke in your festival travel plans this summer as the Revelstoke Railway Museum presents its annual Railway Days festival from August 11 to 14.

While the Glacier Challenge may be time for a bit of fun, it’s also a chance for local groups to do some fundraising. The Revelstoke Ski Club was on deck once again at the Centennial Ball Fields selling bags of ice to campers, collecting recyclables and garbage, and helping to keep the campground looking tidy. This year they were also involved in field maintenance and lining

It’s not finished yet, but even amidst all the construction Revelstoke’s new community theatre -- housed inside the new Revelstoke Secondary School -- is a sight to behold. With an orchestra section, three catwalks, and seating for 275 among some of its features the potential uses for the new theatre are numerous. So it may come as a surprise that the theatre doesn’t appear to have been a high priority for the Ministry of Education.

This summer, Revelstoke resident Rachel Rienks is experiencing the opportunity of a lifetime in the land down under. Many may know her as a long-time volunteer with the Revelstoke Grizzlies Minor Hockey Team, as a former Miss Revelstoke candidate, a member of the Community Choir, or in various citizenship roles as a Royal Canadian Army Cadet.

A new pilot CBT youth funding program is being unveiled this fall and six communities stand to benefit from $100,000 in funding over four years. But in order to be selected as one of the six communities, the community has got to apply. CBT spokesperson Andrea Wilkey says the program will seek a cross-section of communities, including small and large ones. The CBT is also seeking to distribute the pilot communities across the Columbia Basin.

Organizers are gearing up for the first big musical production in the new $3-million theatre being built as part of the new schools project.
