From underdogs to tournament medallists, the U15 Sicamous Eagles soared through the season to take bronze in the North Delta tourney March 20-23.
The team, made up of 13- and 14-year kids from Sicamous and Revelstoke which included five brand new skaters, started off in the bottom but made coaches and families proud as they worked their way up.
“They started out really poorly, like they would lose really badly, but then we slowly got better throughout the season,” head coach Cory Beisel, from Revelstoke, said of the rough start that the kids were able to turn around. “It just took them a little bit to understand and believe in themselves to eventually start competing.”
The team that won the playoffs, the Eagles had beat 6-4 in a regular season season game, demonstrating just how far they’d come. Though the U15 Eagles lost the playoffs in the semi-finals, Beisel is confident in their skills.
“So in that bottom playoff, they could have beat any of the teams we were playing there, for sure,” “I'm pretty proud of that group, from where they came from.”
