Partners in Shuswap Tourism and the Columbia Shuswap Film Commission are pressing pause on these services following the withdrawal of a key player.

A media release from the Columbia Shuswap Regional District explained that as they consider new options for the future, the majority of participants – which includes the District of Sicamous and Electoral Areas C, D, E, F and G – voted to re-evaluate the tourism service after the City of Salmon Arm pulled out.

Last year the city announced it would withdraw from Shuswap Tourism as of Jan. 1. With the city being the largest funding partner in the service, the CSRD said "this had a significant impact on Shuswap Tourism's annual budget."

Shuswap Tourism is a regional destination management and marketing organization focused on attracting visitors to the area, supporting tourism businesses and providing marketing and promotional services.

Concurrently, participants in the Columbia Shuswap Film Commission, which includes Revelstoke, Salmon Arm, Sicamous and CSRD Electoral Areas B, C, D, E, F and G, also voted to consider other options for that service as well. The Commission promotes film and TV production activity, in conjunction with Creative BC, to the domestic and international film industry.

"Members of the Shuswap Economic Development/Tourism Participants Review Committee will be meeting in the coming months to review options and consider new ways to deliver services," the release added.
