Highway 1 will remain inaccessible Thursday, March 13, between Revelstoke and Golden until 5:30 p.m. as Parks Canada performs avalanche control amid falling snow.

The work began at 10 a.m., closing the Trans-Canada Highway from Revelstoke's Victoria Road West to Golden's Anderson Road, affecting some 145 kilometres of road with no detour available, according to DriveBC.

Commercial traffic moving eastbound have been held in Malakwa, just past Sicamous, since 9 a.m. and will remain there until the 5:30 reopening of the highway east of Revelstoke.

Passenger vehicles may still proceed past Malakwa to Revelstoke.

Motorists should note that another, shorter closure is already planned for Friday, March 14, between 3 and 5 p.m.

Avalanche control will shut 18 km of Highway 1 between Mount Revelstoke National Park's Woolsey Creek Bridge and Glacier National Park's west boundary.
