The sun was scorching and Revelstoke was draped in red and white Tuesday, July 1, as the first floats left the courthouse curb for this year's Canada Day parade.
Revelstoke Fire Rescue Services engines and dozens of other vehicles waving the Maple Leaf toured down First Street West and Mackenzie Avenue for what the city had hailed as a unity-themed celebration.
Local businesses sporting their Canadian pride in the procession included Revelstoke Chamber of Commerce, Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club, Caribou Kids, Revelstoke Search and Rescue, Illecillewaet Greenbelt Society, Mt. Begbie Manor & Villas, Revelstoke RCMP, Cooper Equipment Rentals, CPKC, Cascadia Credit Union, Revy Riders Dirtbike Club and the Revelstoke Derailers.
Accolades went to Revy Riders' flying tricycle for best float, Mt. Begbie Manor's decorated magnolia scooter club for funniest float, and Caribou Kids' Canada Day Hayride for most creative float.
As the floats paraded past Queen Elizabeth Park, the flag was raised and the Revelstoke Community Band tuned up their instruments for a second set under the shade of the tree canopy.
