Revelstoke celebrated Bear Day on Saturday, September 15 , kicking off at the Farmer's Market.
Organized by Revelstoke Bear Aware, the day was stacked with all things bear-ready for Revelstoke. The day began off bright and early with a pop-up bear den at the Farmer's Market from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Guests from the Kicking Horse Interpretive Centre were visiting and chatting about 'Boo the Bear.' There was also a scavenger hunt for kids, featuring bear swag and face painting.
The bear den also featured a demonstration, showing vistors how to use bear spray.
The Okanagan Library, Revelstoke branch also ran a colouring contest from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. As well, The Roxy Theatre screened "Fortress of the Bears" at 12:30 p.m., with a Q&A session following the film with bear biologist, Bryon Benn.
For those looking to celebrate all things bear in an active way, there was a "Bear Track Interpretive Walk" with Giles Shearing. Shearing spoke about foraging signs, smells, and what to do if you encounter a bear.
As for those looking to express their artistic side while learning about bears, they got the opportunity to do just that at the Revelstoke Arts Centre from 7-9 p.m. for a bear-themed paint night with Lily.
