Sustainably-minded Revelstokians pitch together to clean greenbelt and beyond

Earth Week cleanup April 26 organized by Illecillewaet Greenbelt Society clears 120 pounds of litter

At its first-ever Earth Week cleanup, the Illecillewaet Greenbelt Society (IGS) brought community members together Saturday, April 26, to gather about 120 pounds of garbage littered around Revelstoke's greenspaces.

Teal Randle, an IGS board member who originally pitched the idea of starting a cleanup in honour of Earth Day every April 22, said efforts last Saturday concentrated around the Illecillewaet Greenbelt and along the Columbia River.

She added she was pleased with the amount of turnout for the event's first year.

IGS thanks Dose Coffee, Valhalla Pure Outfitters, Revy Outdoors, Basecamp Resorts and Forage & Fill for donating prizes to the attendees who collected the most litter, and who demonstrated the most impressive ecological knowledge.
