The Okanagan Public Library, Revelstoke branch has been busy hosting events leading up to Truth and Reconciliation Day.
One of these events was a craft and storytelling session on September 15. The session aimed to teach participants more about the impacts of residential schools and offered an opportunity for folks to prepare signs for their homes or for the walk which will take place on Sept. 30.
The next event will take place on Sept. 27 and will be a screening of the film, WaaPake. The film was directed by Jules Arita Koostachin.
The Revelstoke branch explained that the film is about intergenerational trauma, as well as healing. Through the perspective of an Indigenous lens, it shows the "Reality of living in the shadow of residential school experiences and explores ways in which we can change the narrative to one that offers hope and a view to the future."
Those interested can view the trailer here. The screening is free of charge and begins at 6 p.m.
