UPDATE: 1 fire held, other still out of control in Vernon area

A Cherryville resident spotted the Woodward Creek fire on Saturday, Sept. 21. It is currently classified as out of control.

UPDATE: Monday, Sept. 23

The Dixon Creek fire has now been held. Fire crews got a handle on the small, 0.009 hectare fire on Sunday evening, around 5:30 p.m. 

The Woodward Creek fire is still out of control, and is still 0.3 hectares in size. 

ORIGINAL: A wildfire that sprouted near Dixon Creek in Vernon has been classified as out of control. 

The blaze was discovered on Saturday, Sept. 21. Near Dixon Creek, the 0.009 hectare (90 square metres) fire is approximately 15 km north of Lavington, just south of Silver Star Provincial Park.

Lightning caused, there is currently no area restrictions nearby.

Farther east, a 0.3 hectare blaze near Woodward Creek is also out of control.

Discovered on Thursday, Sept. 19, the lightning caused fire is located northwest of Cherryville. There are no area restrictions in place.
