A fire broke out at an abandoned home in Kelowna on Thursday night, June 15.
Around 11 p.m., the Kelowna Fire Department received calls about the structure on fire in the area of Harvey Avenue and Ethel Street. When crews first arrived at the scene, heavy flames could be seen from the back of the house and had already reached the attic.
Crews battled the blaze to the point where they were able to enter the home. As they continued to douse the blaze, flames broke through the roof. Because the roof was weakening, crews were pulled from inside the house.
Despite not being able to attack the fire from the inside, crews were able to put out the blaze from outside the house.
The house was boarded up and set to be demolished.
At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown but the fire department has deemed it suspicious.
The Kelowna Fire Department had three engines, one ladder, one command vehicle and in total, 18 fire fighters at the scene. RCMP and emergency crews also attended the scene. No one was injured.
