Chase RCMP responded to a crash notification from an iPhone recently, only to discover it was not the type of crash police were expecting.
On May 22 about 5:45 p.m., Chase RCMP received the notification as well as the coordinates of the crash. Heading to Sorrento, police conducted patrols there but couldn’t find a vehicle collision. Eventually, officers made contact with the owner of the phone. She explained the phone had been dropped on concrete and then fell into the lake.
Wrote Chase RCMP in a media release: “Apparently, iPhone’s Crash Detection feature interpreted this as a severe crash and connected directly to emergency services. The phone was fine.”
