The Revelstoke-based Columbia Unit Crew was dispatched to Alberta on May 25 to help fight wildfires in Alberta.

They follow the Monashee Unit Crew, who left for Alberta on May 17.

B.C. Wildfire Management Branch fire information officer Karlie Shaughnessy says that in addition to the two 20-person unit crews, there is one three-person initial attack crew from Revelstoke, and an unknown number of firefighting officers.

It is unknown where the crews will be working in Alberta. Once there, they come under the command of Alberta wildfire authorities.

From the Southeast Fire Centre, there are a total of five unit crews, three initial attack crews and 20 officers now assisting with wildfires in Alberta.

The Monashee and Columbia unit crews are the only ones based in Revelstoke.
