A procedural error means the new cosmetic pesticide ban bylaw that was adopted on May 24 looks likely to be temporarily rescinded.
A June 8 council report from the corporate administration department says the city is required to deposit a copy of the proposed bylaw with the provincial minister of health "in order for the bylaw to be validly adopted."
The report doesn't elaborate on why the error was made, or how long of a delay it will mean until the pesticide bylaw is (presumably) re-adopted.
City bylaw procedure rules allow the mayor to initiate "a reconsideration of a matter" within 30 days. The staff report recommends doing so.
Council will explore the staff recommendation at their June 14 regular meeting.
