A collision claimed the life of a driver, with one passenger being airlifted to the nearest hospital, over the weekend.

On Saturday, July 7, just before 9 p.m., the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP attended to a single vehicle collision that occurred in the 2900-block of Mabel Lake Road near Lumby. Officers arrived on scene to find a Ford F350, which was traveling southbound, had gone off road left and collided with a rock embankment, ejecting both the driver and passenger from the vehicle.

“The driver, a 32-year-old Lumby male, died as a result of the collision. The passenger, a 33-year-old Vernon woman, was airlifted to the nearest medical facility for further assessment but has since been released,” said RCMP Const. Kelly Brett.

The investigation into the collision is still on-going, however preliminary findings show that alcohol and speed may have been a factor.
