Flood watch over for Okanagan

Warmer and drier conditions expected for rest of week

With sunny skies ahead in the Okanagan, Environment Canada has rescinded the region’s flood watch.

Mission Creek, along with its tributaries around Syilx territory, Vernon, Kelowna, Penticton and surrounding areas have all had their status downgraded.

“The low-pressure system that impacted the B.C. central interior over the past few days has moved on,” reads a report from Environment Canada. “Warmer and drier conditions are anticipated through the rest of this week.”

The report added that at this point in the season, snowpack melt has also eased.

Rivers flowing through the Similkameen Valley and Nicola have also had their flood watches rescinded.

The Shuswap River as well as the South Thompson River and its tributaries remain under flood watch. At Enderby, the Shuswap is flowing at 435 metres cubed per second, and is expected to peak and start receding by May 25.

The South Thompson is currently flowing at 1040 metres cubed per second and should hit its peak sometime in the next few days.
