UPDATE: Highway between Vernon and Kamloops opened

Vehicle incident near Monte Lake closed route, now open to alternating traffic

UPDATE 2:05 p.m.:

Highway 97 has reopened to single-lane, alternating traffic.

A crash near Monte Lake closed the highway for more than three hours Monday morning.

A two-vehicle collision is being investigated by Vernon North Okanaan RCMP.

Motorists are cautioned to be aware of heavy sand on the roadway.

Further updates will be provided at 3:30 p.m.

ORIGINAL 10:30 a.m.:

A vehicle incident has closed Highway 97 near Monte Lake.

DriveBC reports the route between Vernon and Kamloops is closed east of Monte Creek between Monte Lake and Hanna roads for 1.5 kilometres.

Motorists are advised to expect major delays.

A detour is in effect via the Trans Canada Highway, Highway 97B and 97A.

The incident was reported around 10:30 a.m.

Next update is expected around 12 noon.
