Over four days, police in Kamloops targeted bicycle thieves using the bait bike program. Eight men were arrested and 23 charges were laid.

One of those arrested was a man who had gotten married just hours earlier.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Simon Pillay said the 41-year-old man is believed to have been on his way to the reception when spotted a bike, stopped, cut the lock, and pedalled off.

The bike was recovered in the man’s vehicle while he was driving when banned from doing so.

“The investigators noticed he was well dressed for conducting a bike theft and later were contacted by the concerned bride,” Pillay said.

In the bait bike program, police lock up bikes in places where criminals are likely to see them. The bikes are kept under surveillance and if a suspect cuts the lock and steals one, officers are standing by to catch them.
