Police are puzzled as to how a semi truck went crashing over the embankment while driving up the eastern access in Revelstoke on Friday morning.
"We're still investigating. We have to look at all factors. It could have been a medical factor, we don't know," said Cpl. Thomas Blakney of the Revelstoke RCMP. "The road conditions are good. It's an off-road right. It's very unusual to see something like this. We'll know more after we talk to the driver."
The empty logging truck was heading up Townley Street towards the Trans-Canada Highway at around 11 a.m. when it somehow went off the road and down the bank towards Powerhouse Road, where it came to a rest on its side.
The driver was able to walk away from the crash but was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.
"Fortunately he was able to walk away and fortunately there was no load," said Blakney. "If there was a load and someone was coming down here, there could have been an injury.
John Kampman from Columbia Towing attended the scene. When asked if he'd ever seen an incident like this, he replied, "Never."
The driver was charged with failing to stay right of the shoulder.
