Man fined for selling E-cigarettes and vaping products to minors

Sicamous RCMP and Interior Health follow up on complaint of resident selling E-cigarettes to persons under age 19.

A Sicamous man has been fined for supplying E-cigarettes and related vapour products to a minor.

A $575 violation ticket was issued on Dec. 9 to a 56-year-old Sicamous resident by a tobacco enforcement officer with Interior Health.

The fine’s issuance was the result of a collaboration between Interior Health and local police following up on a complaint, said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dan Moskaluk in a Dec. 13 news release.

Moskaluk said Sicamous RCMP received a complaint that local youths were in possession of E-cigarettes and vapour products… “commonly known as ‘E-Juice.’”

“The investigation resulted in police identifying a 56-year-old Sicamous man who was reported to be selling vapour products from his residence,” said Moskaluk.

Police then contacted Interior Health, who have the authority to inspect vendors of tobacco and vapour products for compliance with the law.

Under British Columbia’s Tobacco and Vapour Products Control Act, effective Sept. 1, 2016, it is illegal to sell tobacco and vaping products to minors (ages 18 and under). It is also illegal to vape within vehicles with children under age 16, within six metres of doors, air intakes open windows, and around Kindergarten to Grade 12 school sites.
