Authorities have released the name of the 44-year-old passenger killed in Monday's one-vehicle accident in Burton.
Lisa Louise Radosh of New Denver died when the 2010 Hyundai she was riding in left the roadway around 11 a.m. at 5280 Highway 6 near Burton, 30 km southwest of Nakusp.
“The car crossed the center line and went across the northbound lane and into the ditch, where it struck a tree head-on,” said Constable Tim McDonald of the Nakusp RCMP.
A witness passing the accident scene observed that the road appeared to be straight, and the car’s front end was smashed in.
The driver, a 41-year-old New Denver woman, suffered serious injuries in the crash. She was transported to Arrow Lakes Hospital in Nakusp and then airlifted to Kelowna General Hospital.
The West Kootenay Traffic Services unit of the RCMP is investigating the cause of the accident.
The accident was the second serious wreck in the Burton area within 24 hours.
One person was airlifted to hospital in Kelowna after a serious roll-over accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 29.
The accident occurred on loose gravel on Silver Queen Road, where a green Subaru Legacy with five male occupants from the Edgewood, Cherryville and Vernon areas went off the road.
“The driver indicates there were deer on the road and he swerved to miss the deer – he lost control of the vehicle and it went into the ditch and rolled. One person was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle,” said McDonald.
The passenger who was ejected was airlifted to Kelowna and released after treatment for minor injuries. The other four occupants also received minor injuries, McDonald said.
