Deep Creek Road in the North Okanagan is closed in both directions due to the Hullcar Mountain wildfire, DriveBC reports.
The closure is between Hullcar Road and Barney Road. Deep Creek Road is open to local traffic only, DriveBC said around 5 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8.
A detour is in effect via Highway 97B.
The Hullcar Mountain wildfire, northwest of Armstrong, saw little growth overnight and is currently an estimated 700 hectares in size.
The out-of-control fire is listed as a Wildfire of Note by BC Wildfire Service.
All evacuation orders and alerts remained unchanged Thursday.
BC Wildfire Service had a total of 81 personnel working on the fire Thursday, in addition to five helicopters and heavy equipment. Crews are working on the northeastern part of the fire where the fire behaviour is most active.
Heavy equipment is working to implement a machine guard while ground crews work to establish a hand guard to open up and tie into the northwest corner of the fire.
