The community of Oliver is crediting the quick and brave actions of its fire department for saving two people from a house fire and stopping the blaze from spreading to neighbouring homes on Tuesday night.
Around 11:45 p.m. Oliver Fire responded to a structure fire off Fairview Road and Kootenay Street.
Crews arrived at a single storey home fully engulfed in flames, said Oliver FD. Crews quickly got after the fire with an exterior attack, knocking back flames until it was safe to enter the home.
Two people were treated on scene by firefighters and ambulance and then taken to hospital. The home is severely damaged.
Oliver Missions Society is helping out the senior resident who lost everything in the fire. She is is need of everything from clothes to shoes and more.
Fire crews were on scene for two hours to contain the fire, with a crew staying overnight to secure the scene.
The fire did begin to spread to a second adjacent home, however, firefighters were able to provide exposure protection lines and search the second home for further fire and damage inside.
These actions saved a second home from being destroyed, said Oliver Fire.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
