Revelstoke RCMP to pay tribute to slain Moncton officers

The Revelstoke RCMP will be holding a memorial service to celebrate the lives of three officers who were killed in Moncton last week.

The memorial service will take place on Campbell Avenue in front of the detachment on Tuesday at 11 a.m.

The public is asked to gather prior to 11, at which time RCMP officers, auxiliary constables, firefighters, CP police and Parks Canada staff will march to the site led by a piper.

The ceremony pays tribute to constables Fabrice Georges Gevaudan, Douglas James Larche and Dave Joseph Ross, who were all shot dead in the line of duty last week in Moncton,

The ceremony coincides with a regimental funeral service being held at the Moncton Coliseum on Tuesday. More than 5,000 police officers from around the country are expected to attend, along with all three major federal party leaders.

David Wilks, the MP for Kootenay-Columbia and a retired RCMP officer, spoke about the slayings in the House of Commons on Monday, saying the tragedy “stirs strong emotions” throughout the policing community.

The police community is tight knit and when something like this happens, it stirs strong emotions in each and every one of us. The day will be filled with many tears.

“To the families of Const. Fabrice Georges Gevaudan, and Const. Douglas James Larche and Const. David Ross, we will always be with them,” he said. “Canadians will hold them in their thoughts and prayers in the days, weeks and months to come.”
