A semi driver is being ticketed and another driver is in hospital following a head-on collision on Highway 1.
The highway was temporarily closed around noon on Thursday, March 9, while police, Revelstoke Fire Rescue Service (RFRS) members, BC Ambulance Service paramedics, Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure personnel, tow companies and EMCON flaggers responded to a two-vehicle collision.
Revelstoke RCMP Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky reports an eastbound black Nissan Titan pickup truck collided head on with a westbound commercial tractor-trailer unit while passing just west of the access to Mount Revelstoke National Park.
“This westbound vehicle driver was issued a provincial violation ticket for fail to keep right, as their truck was found to be six- to eight-feet into the on-coming passing lane,” said Grabinsky.
RFRS had to extricate an injured man from the pickup, who was then transported to hospital in Revelstoke.
Grabinsky said the semi driver “also suffered non-life threatening injuries” in the collision.
The accident occurred on a two-lane section of the Trans-Canada Highway, said Grabinsky, resulting in the temporary closure of the highway as first responders did their work.
“Once the injured parties are removed, the trucks will be towed, the debris cleaned up and the road assessed,” said Grabinsky.
