Several small wildfires continue to burn near Revelstoke, with some new fires caused by lightning over the weekend.

A small blaze, less than one hectare in size, was discovered this morning at the Big Mouth Forest Service Road, approximately 120 km north of Revelstoke. The BC Wildfire Service classified the fire as ‘out of control’, caused by a lightning strike or some other natural cause.

Close to the previous fire, at Big Mouth Creek, a 3.6-hectare fire that was discovered on July 2 is still burning. The BC Wildfire Service has a full response team working on the ‘out of control’ fire.

Southwest of Revelstoke, a 0.5-hectare blaze is under investigation after being discovered on July 8. The fire is located at Garnet Ridge, approximately 50 km from Revelstoke.

Near Nakusp, two small, lightning-caused fires are burning in the mountains, both discovered on Sunday (July 9). The first is a 0.6-hectare fire at Mount Leary, being fought with a full response team. The second is a 0.1-hectare fire on Mount Islip poses no immediate threat to people or infrastructure.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the Revelstoke area should see some smoke from fires to the northeast tomorrow morning (July 11) before clearing off on July 12.
