A snowmobile was stolen from the Revelstoke area early Monday morning, RCMP say.

The bright yellow Ski-doo Summit X snowmobile was reportedly stolen on Monday, Jan. 30, at about 2 a.m.

Police are asking for help locating the sled, which had the off-road vehicle licence plate 2C9234. It has a red X on the side panel of the hood.

RCMP have obtained video surveillance footage of the theft and are continuing their investigation.

This is the first reported snowmobile theft of the 2016-17 winter in Revelstoke.

Last winter, the RCMP successfully arrested Ryan Matthew Hall after he and an accomplice stole the RCMP's bait snowmobile. He was sentenced to one year in prison, while a warrant is out for his alleged accomplice, Vincent Matthew Porteous.

"The Revelstoke RCMP continues to conduct active patrols of the community to reduce thefts and locate those responsible," wrote Staff-Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky in a news release. "The RCMP actively deploys the bait sled to prevent thefts of vehicles and sleds in various BC communities.

The RCMP encourage people to register their off-road vehicles and display the licence plate number.

The public is asked to report any suspicious activities such as sleds being moved around late at night by calling 9-1-1 or 250-837-5255.

Anyone with information about this theft is asked to the Revelstoke RCMP detachment at 250-837-5255 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
