Lightning caused fire near Summerland doused

BC Wildfire is on scene of the Eneas Creek blaze

UPDATE: 11 a.m.

The Eneas Creek wildfire is now under control after being sparked by lightning, Tuesday night.

Five other fires were sparked in the Okanagan – Nicola region during a storm that saw intense lightning in the area.

The Brook Creek blaze, northeast of Princeton is spot sized and considered out of control. BC Wildfire is on the scene of this blaze today with four personnel and heavy machinery.

The Davis Lake spot-sized fire started 29 south of Merritt is considered held, however, a helicopter remains on site.

Then about 30 km southeast of Merritt the Clement Road spot-sized blaze is now classified as under control.

Closer to Kamloops the Klup Creek fire is 21 km northeast of Merritt and is now considered held, but a helicopter will remain on the blaze throughout the day.

A wildfire sparked about 7 p.m. Tuesday near Summerland after a thunderstorm rolled through the area.

BC Wildfire is on scene of the Eneas Creek blaze about 7 km northwest of Summerland.

The fire is estimated to be less than one hectare as of last night and is smouldering in the ground with no open flame at a slow rate of spread.

Four personnel responded to the blaze along with two helicopters.

Residents in the Summerland region reported seeing lightning in the area followed by smoke. However, the area did receive rain showers overnight.
