Sprinkler system extinguishes fire at RMR

A fire in a suite at Revelstoke Mountain Resort Wednesday morning was extinguished by the unit's sprinkler system, Revelstoke fire chief Rob Girard said in a news release.

The Revelstoke fire department was called out to the fire, on the second floor of the recently completed Nelsen 3 building, at around 7:30 a.m.

The fire was isolated to the kitchen and, "Fire crews performed extensive ventilation to clear the toxic smoke from the suite and the hallway,” Girard said.

The occupants of the suite were out of the building when fire crews arrived. It took the 19 fire fighters in attendance about one hour to fully extinguish the fire.

Girard said the suite sustained substantial smoke and water damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
