BC Liberal leadership contender George Abbott will be campaigning in Revelstoke on Feb. 23.

Abbott will speak at a breakfast gathering at the Riverside Landing restaurant at the Revelstoke Golf Club at 7 p.m.

Local BC Liberals organizer and Abbott supporter Peter Bernacki said everyone is welcome to attend, but they should contact him ahead of time if they plan to come.

Abbott is the second Liberal leadership contender to visit Revelstoke during this campaign.

Moira Stilwell visited Revelstoke on Jan. 3 where she promised $10 million in provincial funding to establish a mountain search and rescue training institute in Revelstoke.

On Feb. 16, Stilwell announced she was dropping out of the race and throwing her support behind George Abbott.

Abbott has historical ties to the local region.

The Sicamous native served on city council there before being elected to the Columbia-Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) in 1980. He was appointed chair of the CSRD in 1985.

Abbott was first elected to the provincial legislature in 1996, and has since held five cabinet posts. He represents the riding of Shuswap.
