UPDATE: Pride flag to fly in Vernon

Council discussed the application to fly the pride flag for pride week from August 7-13.

Vernon city hall will be flying a pride flag, one way or another.

The flag raising is for Vernon’s pride week, which takes place August 7-13.

It was anticipated the flag, on the community pole, would be installed by early July, however, the installation date is unknown due to supply and delivery challenges.

In the event that the community flag pole is not installed by Tuesday, Aug. 8, then the City of Vernon’s flag pole will be used.

Pride week will be run by Vernon’s Pride Society for the second straight year.

The society was officially incorporated on June 16, meaning that they can officially elect board members, and apply for city funding.

Last year, over 70 people gathered to watch the flag raising and celebrate the beginning of pride week, which happened for the first time ever in the city.
