A suspicious device was discovered in Vernon’s Justice Park, Monday afternoon.
At approximately 3:15 p.m., police located a suspicious device, situated in the northwest corner of 27th Street and 30th Avenue.
As a precaution, officers contacted the RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) and decided the best course of action was for EDU to safely deal with the device.
While EDU was en-route, Justice Park was cordoned off with police tape to ensure the safety of the public.
Two officers remained on site into the evening, with most of the park taped off along with the rear parking lot behind Vernon Funeral Home.
The public was asked to avoid the area while the situation was dealt with.
The suspicious device found yesterday in Justice Park has been safely removed from the scene by an EDU officer and the area is once again open to the public,” said Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer. “We want to thank everyone for their patience and co-operation as we worked to safely resolve the situation.”
The scene was cleared by Tuesday morning.
